The community impact of the gift of a menstrual cup is astounding! Even though we get phenomenal feedback from our community groups we still cannot quantify the far reaching effects of how one menstrual cup can change a life!
MyCup NZ is a social enterprise uses the Buy-One-Give-One model to be able to gift menstrual cups to the community.
Other Cups we add to this figure are the cups that have been purchased by our Community Partners who have done fundraising or applied for grants in their community to also gift cups.
TOTAL MENSTRUAL CUPS SOLD & GIFTED = 19,677
This total figure of 15895 menstrual cups contributes to real life consequences for communities over the life of the cup (10 years):
SAVINGS TO AN INDIVIDUAL over the next 10 YEARS = $2400.00
SAVINGS TO THE COMMUNITY over the next 10 YEARS = $47,224,800
WASTE REDUCTION over the next 10 YEARS = 47,224,800 less tampons and/or pads in our landfills
TOTAL MENSTRUAL WASTE REDUCTION TO LANDFILL = 777 TONNES (minimum!)
TOTAL CUP WASTE COMPARISON = 0.30 TONNES (menstrual cup waste when the cup is thrown away after 10 years)
** These figures are based on an average 5 day period, 4 tampons per day (or 4 pads per day) and 1 liner per day.
1 cup = 10 year life
1 year = approx 240 tampons
1 year = pads/panty liners + pain killers
Cost per month = NZ$20.00
Cost per year = $240.00
Periods in lifetime = 456
Cost over lifetime = NZ$9120.00
This can dramatically increase if a person has a longer & heavier period and relies on both pads and tampons.
These are approximate figures only and can vary according to individual needs. Cup life depends on model you buy.
10 years = 1 cup (depending on model)
1 cup = Costs between $25.00 – $65.00
