Yes that cup looks big, but if you have the right size you will have no trouble inserting it!
If you can use a tampon, you can use a cup!
Before you insert your cup you will need to do the following:
Instructions on cup cleaning can be found HERE
- Practice folding you cup. You can find cup fold HERE. Get familiar with your cup by trying all of the different folds, find one that you feel most comfortable about. The “Punch Down Fold” works great with a MyCup™ Menstrual Cup.
- RELAX, find a comfortable position. The best time to practice inserting you cup is when you have a shower. The warm water helps relax you, softens the cup and also helps act as a lubricant. If you do not use the shower use a water based lubricant to help you out.
- INSERT YOUR CUP: Cup insertion is something you learn as you go and can take you several cycles to get the hang of. On the other hand some people get it straight away! A cup does not sit as high as a tampon so you do not need to push it in as far. Sometime cup placement can depend on where your cervix is located at the time of your period. If you want to find your cervix please see HERE
- Use the fold you prefer and open your legs, push the cup past the first set of muscles at the entrance to your vagina. as you push it up and through this set of muscles give your cup a little twist and release the fold. Push up on the base of the cup to assist the cup to “pop” open. Run you finger around the base of the cup. It should feel round and smooth and a little “bouncy”. If you can feel that one side of the cup is flattened or folded inwards you will need to try again. The stem should sit within or just above the set of muscles at the entrance of your vagina.
Your cup should feel comfortable when placed correctly. Even expert cup users have times where they find it tricky to get their cups to open.
